FINE ART

Kelly McDonald - Bio
My artistic process is nuanced between deconstruction and reconstruction. It involves breaking down an image into its elemental components and gradually reconstructing it.
Central to my work are explorations of memory and awareness, creating a narrative that invites viewers to think about how these concepts shape our understanding of identity and experience. My inspiration starts with an image- sometimes a photograph; of places I have visited or would like to. They are images that have grabbed my attention by either their vibrant colours, complex composition, or even just their simple natural beauty. I then try to recapture these landscapes by breaking them down into many layers of shapes and forms, each layer carrying its significance, and reconstructing them into something new and transformed.
In essence, through my art, I try to breathe new life into familiar scenes; playing with the ideas of memory, awareness, and transformation. Born in Calgary, Alberta, I now call Montreal my home.
